Congress on Friday released its first list of 31 candidates for Haryana Assembly elections 2024. Wrestler Vinesh Phogat, who has joined Congress, will contest the elections from the Julana seat, according to the list. The party has also fielded former Haryana CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda from the Garhi Sampla-Kiloi seat. Haryana Assembly elections will take place on October 5.

At least 12 people were killed and at least 16 were injured after a car collided with a bus on Agra-Aligarh National Highway near Hathras in Uttar Pradesh. As per Hathras DM Ashish Kumar, the accident took place while one vehicle was trying to overtake the other vehicle. UP CM Yogi Adityanath took cognisance of the accident and expressed condolences.

Congress has accused SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch of corruption. The party claimed that Buch rented out one of her properties to Carol Info Services, a company linked to Wockhardt, which is being investigated by the SEBI in several cases. Buch received ₹2.16 crore rental income between 2018-19 to 2023-24, during which she was a whole-time SEBI member, said Congress.

A team of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted a raid at the residence of the former principal of Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Sandip Ghosh, on Friday morning in an alleged financial scam involving the hospital. Raids are also underway at the houses of Ghosh's three close associates. Earlier this week, Ghosh was arrested by the CBI.

A special Kolkata court criticised CBI's investigating officer and public prosecutor for appearing late during the hearing of Sanjay Roy, the main accused in rape-murder of RG Kar Hospital's trainee doctor. The judge said, "Shall I grant bail to him?" However, the hearing started following the CBI counsel's appearance and the judge extended Roy's judicial custody for another 14 days.
