Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah on Wednesday opposed the Union Cabinet's nod to 'one nation, one election' proposal and said it's against the federal structure and practically impossible to implement. "It carries the hidden agenda of the ruling BJP, both inside and outside the Parliament," he added. "The public opinion across the country is also against the proposed system," he further said.

SP MLA from Bhadohi Zahid Beg's son Zaim Beg was arrested on Wednesday in connection with suicide of a minor girl, police said. The arrest comes after two cases were registered against MLA and his wife for allegedly forcing a minor girl into child labour and instigating another to die by suicide. The MLA's son is accused in both cases.

Atishi visited the injured, assured financial aid, and promised legal action against the building owner. Rescue teams saved 15 people from the debris in the old structure.

PM Narendra Modi on Wednesday called Union Cabinet's approval of 'One Nation, One Election' proposal as important step towards making India's democracy "vibrant, participative". PM also lauded former President Ram Nath Kovind, who headed One Nation, One Election panel, for his "effort and consulting a wide range of stakeholders". The plan proposes simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
