Joe Root, the star batter of the England team, etched his name in history by becoming the first player to score 5,000 runs in the World Test Championship. This remarkable feat was accomplished on Day 2 of the first Test match against Pakistan in Multan. With this, his total in the WTC now stands at 5,005 runs from 59 matches.

Harry Brook notched up his 4th Test ton in as many matches in Pakistan, equalling the record for most centuries by an overseas batter in the country. His century, which took just 119 balls, puts him alongside Aravinda de Silva and Mohinder Amarnath. Amarnath took 17 innings, de Silva 14, while Brook achieved the feat in just six.

Sri Lanka have left out Dasun Shanaka and Dushmantha Chameera and added Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Jeffrey Vandersay to their squad for the three-match T20I series against the West Indies, starting on October 13 in Dambulla. Rajapaksa last played a T20I in January 2023, while Vandersay hasn't played a T20I since March 2022.

In a bid to correct this situation, the PCB announced on their social media platforms that fans would be allowed to attend Days 3 and 4 of the Test match without purchasing tickets.

England pacer Brydon Carse has stated that opener Ben Duckett will bat on Day 3 of the first Test against Pakistan, despite a finger injury that he sustained on Day 2. He mentioned that Duckett will be assessed overnight to ensure he's ready. In the post-match press conference, Carse said, as reported by BBC, "He'll be back batting tomorrow."

On Wednesday, England star Joe Root drew level with former Australian captain Ricky Ponting among players with the most 150-plus scores in Test history, during the first Test against Pakistan. Root and Ponting both have 15 scores of 150-plus, the joint-fifth most ever. India's Sachin Tendulkar has the most, with 20. Brian Lara and Kumar Sangakkara have 19 each.
